The most striking and beautiful creations on the red carpet of the Oscars | NOW

In addition to the prizes awarded during the Oscars, the dresses and other outfits are perhaps the most discussed topic of the annual gala. NU.nl lists some of the most striking red runner creations.

Renée Zellweger won her second Oscar on Sunday for her lead role in the film Judy. The actress wore a white off-shouldered Armani Prive dress, which was highly praisedfrom the fashion critics. Zellweger told the red carpet that she wanted to wear a ‘timeless dress with a modern twist’ during the Oscars. (Photo: BrunoPress)

Cynthia Erivo, nominated for her role in Harriet and best original song, was also complimented on her choice of dress. The actress wore an asymmetrical dress from Versace with a high slit. (Photo: BrunoPress)

Spike Lee appeared on the red carpet in a Gucci tuxedo in the colors purple and yellow. Those are colors of the Los Angeles Lakers, the club where recently deceased basketball player Kobe Bryant played. The director also had the number 24 embroidered on his jacket, a reference to Bryant’s back number. The two worked together ten years ago when Lee made a documentary about the life of basketball player. (Photo: BrunoPress)

Janelle Monáe wore a special creation by Ralph Lauren that was adorned with no fewer than 168,000 Swarovski crystals. Allegedly six hundred hours have been worked on the dress of the actress and singer. Monáe provided the opening song of the Oscars, an adaptation of her own song Come Alive. (Photo: BrunoPress)

Billie Eilish chose, as she often does, for a quirky outfit. The singer, who sang a cover of Yesterday by The Beatles during the award ceremony, wore an oversized Chanel suit that she combined with many necklaces, long nails and fingerless gloves. (Photo: BrunoPress)

Pose actor Billy Porter impressed with a creation by the British designer Giles Deacon. The actor wore a top that was decorated with metal golden feathers and a wide skirt with print. (Photo: BrunoPress)

Natalie Portman wanted to draw attention to the lack of nominated female directors and therefore had names of Greta Gerwig (Little Women) and Lulu Wang (The Farewell) embroidered on her cape. It is not the first time that Portman has drawn attention to the low number of nominated female directors. Two years ago the actress was awarded the prize for best director and she emphasized in her presentation that once again no women had a chance to win the Oscar. (Photo: BrunoPress)
