Lately the Crime&techa company founded in 2015 by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart for research on transactional crimes, conducted an interesting study which offered unexpected results. The research entitled “Security in Retail in Italy 2023” shed light on the thefts that occur in supermarkets, and in particular from the results of the study a precise classification of the most stolen goods in large-scale retail outlets.

In some cases these are products certainly stolen from supermarket shelves due to the actual desire to steal, or as a result of an unstoppable drive dictated by forms of actual kleptomania. In other circumstances it is perhaps hunger that triggers the illicit act. Apparently, in fact, only some of the products that really sell out correspond to food and basic necessities. Among these we find tuna, cured meats, cheeses and packaged meat, but also the alcoholic beverages. It can be expected that the theft of this type of goods is linked to a primary need, that of feeding oneself without spending money.
In addition to food, however, thieves steal illegally from the various departments of the supermarket and from large shops also pieces of clothing, and in particular knitwear and jackets, but also footwear, glasses, objects related to technologycome smartphone, tablet, e electronic parts, including electrical sockets, batteries and plugs.
