The police have been able to interview the suspect of a criminal act. He has admitted the act in the preliminary hearing.
The injuries of the students injured in the shooting at Viertola school in Vantaa are very serious, the police informs.
– The participants in the shooting incident are all sixth graders. One of the victims died at the scene, two of the victims were hospitalized. The injuries of both victims who were taken to the hospital are very serious, says the head of the investigation, the crime commissioner Marko Särkkä.
Earlier in the day, the police said that one student died immediately and two were seriously injured in the shooting. They have been taken to the New Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Contacted by Iltalehti, Särkkä does not comment on the motive of the suspected murder or the possible planned nature of the act. He also does not comment on the gender of the victims or how the 12-year-old boy got hold of the handgun.
– We have so many hearings yet to be done that I cannot comment without jeopardizing the preliminary investigation, says Särkkä.
– Now we are talking about the most serious crime that the police can investigate.
Admitted the act
The police have spoken to the suspect once. He has admitted the act in the preliminary hearing.
The police are investigating the case as a murder and two attempted murders.
The next time the boy will be heard is probably tomorrow. Before that, the boy will be handed over to the social authorities. A person under the age of 15 is not criminally responsible, so the police cannot arrest or require him to be imprisoned.
According to the suspicion, a 12-year-old boy opened fire at his classmates at school.
The police have conducted a technical investigation at the school, which will continue tomorrow as well. Crime Commissioner Särkkä says that the police will continue the investigation in the coming days by interviewing those involved and eyewitnesses.
– The police are investigating, among other things, the motive of the act and the reasons that led to the incident.
The police say they will provide more information about the case tomorrow, Wednesday at 2 p.m.
