Some argue that cars are no longer as reliable as they used to be, but this is not entirely true. Journalists from the American edition of Top Speed decided to demonstrate their own proof to skeptics, who published a list of the most trouble-free cars on the planet.
It includes not only examples from the 90s of the last century, but also from the 2010s and even 2020s.
Much of the reliability information that forms the basis of this ranking comes from reputable research publications such as JDPower, RepairPal, Edmunds, Carsurvey and CarEdge. Here’s what happened in the end:
The most reliable cars in the world as of 2023 according to “TopSpeed”
- 1st place – Honda Civic (1990);
- 2nd place – Volvo 900 Series (1997);
- 3rd place – Mercedes-Benz W124 (1995);
- 4th place – Honda Accord (2007);
- 5th place – Toyota Corolla (2007);
- 6th place – Mitsubishi Lancer (2008);
- 7th place – Toyota 4Runner (2013);
- 8th place – Toyota Camry (2015);
- 9th place – Lexus ES (2015);
- 10th place – Toyota RAV4 (2017);
- 11th place – Mazda MX-5 Miata (2021);
- 12th place – Hyundai Kona (2021);
- 13th place – Toyota Prius (2022);
- 14th place – Lexus GX (2021);
- 15th place – Mazda CX-9 (2022).
Japanese brands have become absolute leaders among companies producing the most reliable cars. The TOP-15 included 12 automakers from the country of the Rising Sun at once.
Only one model from Sweden (Volvo 900 Series) and Germany (Mercedes-Benz W124), respectively, which were produced back in the 90s, as well as one modern “Korean” (Hyundai Kona) managed to break into this list.
