New potatoes with dill and butter, which 14% of survey participants believe is the most Latvian taste, came out convincingly in first place in the vote. Tupenīši left the traditional Christmas dish gray peas with bacon, onion and cream topping in second place, which was voted by 12%. On the other hand, 10% of respondents recognized stewed cabbage as the taste of Latvia. Bacon Pies and Brown Bread with Bacon or Butter took fourth and fifth place, respectively.
By the afternoon of November 15, 940 votes had been received in the poll.
To encourage you to “taste” and feel Latvia, the foodies of “Rimi” and the creators of the TV3 program “Taste Latvia” also shared their thoughts on what they believe are the most characteristic products and flavors of the Latvia.
We also invited readers to share their favorite recipes and flavors associated with the homeland in the comments of the article. A reader with the username “kulusa” writes: I like fresh cucumbers with honey. A herring in a coat. Toasted oatmeal in whipped cream with gelatin. Buberto. Kilava Sandwiches. Good rye bread with jam and milk. Ricotta scones. Boiled pork legs and ears with mustard and breadcrumbs. Potatoes with meat sauce. Carp, tench, pike, salmon, cod, sea bream. Sweet creamy carrot and pea stew with dill. Chopped sandwiches with dry bacon and pickled cucumbers. Stewed cabbage with black plums and pork rinds. On the other hand, reader Daina believes that the most Latvian flavors are sklandrauši and rjujmiži with honey.
