The history of the British car company Rolls-Royce goes back to the very beginning of the 20th century. He has countless more or less iconic cars full of luxury. But when it showed its very first electric car called Specter in the Czech Republic for the first time, all the representatives of the brand made sure that we were clear about one thing – this is the most important car in the history of Rolls-Royce. In short, electrification has already absorbed Goodwood, where first-class cars with a statue on the front are produced. The fact that the Czech premiere took place on the ninth floor of a luxury loft, where one day such a car will actually be parked, should have added to its significance.
Rolls-Royce first showed its electric future last fall. Specter represents the first swallow of a whole series of electric models that will follow. The automaker wants to become fully electric by the end of the decade. They obviously don’t have to worry about customer interest, because there are already queues for the first electric Rolls-Royce. And it hasn’t even really started selling yet. “What you’re about to see is Rolls-Royce first and foremost. And only in the second row, a car powered by electric energy,” Karel Kadlec, owner of CarTec Group and director of the Rolls-Royce dealership in the Czech Republic, started the presentation.
Together with other representatives of the car company and journalists, he stood on the ninth floor of the Vanguard Prague luxury residence, which is still being built on the site of a former aircraft factory in Modřany, Prague. It also includes lofts, in which the owners will have the opportunity to park several cars. A large freight elevator takes them directly to the “apartment garage” in the car, and the first electric Rolls-Royce also completed this journey. From then on, journalists could only admire it on site – on the one hand, there is no room for any maneuvers in the entire loft, and only a relatively small number of lucky people have yet tasted a real Spectre.

Among them were, for example, the car company’s test drivers, who drove more than 2.5 million kilometers during a very demanding test program. The designers spent fifty thousand hours behind the wheel of the expected electric ship, during which they analyzed the driving characteristics of the new car in detail in order to perfectly tune it into the final version, as is customary for the Rolls-Royce brand. The manufacturer itself refers to its latest model as an ultra-luxury electric super coupe. And it is true that it is a Rolls-Royce with everything. You definitely won’t miss it on the road, and the fact that it has an electric drivetrain for the first time should be an advantage in the end.
“The Specter has all the qualities that Rolls-Royce is known for the world over – quiet, calm and attractive – and shows how perfectly suited Rolls-Royce is to electrification. It is an expression of a new direction and a symbol of a bright and bold future that is already fully electric for Rolls-Royce.” Frank Tiemann, Director of Corporate Communications for Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars emphasized during the premiere in Prague. But you don’t think about the engine at first glance, you are automatically impressed by the traditionally majestic car, which in the case of the Specter is almost 5.5 meters long, and it also stands on giant 23-inch wheels.
The majestic feeling is enhanced by the widest radiator grille ever designed by the engineers at Goodwood for a Rolls-Ryoce. It is here that the first of the changes related to the fact that the car no longer has an internal combustion engine comes into play. Since the engine does not need to be cooled through this grille, the individual slats of the antique Pantheon-shaped mask are smoother and have been designed to help the air flow around the nose more easily. Thanks to the sloping body of the fastback type and the smooth connection to the glazing of the car, Rolls-Royce achieved the lowest coefficient of frontal air resistance with a value of 0.25.
Because of this, the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy statuette on the bow also underwent aerodynamic optimization. This might seem like a banality at first, but in the case of the British car company, which really cares about every detail, it represented 830 hours of modeling the shape of the statuette and testing it in the wind tunnel. On the front, you will also notice the unusually narrow lights on the Rolls-Royce, which remind you of the new BMW i7. After all, since 2003 it has been under the German car manufacturer Rolls-Royce.
When you open the massive doors that open in the opposite direction, you get to the traditionally generous and luxurious interior, where every detail is once again taken care of. The doors themselves, for example, can be fitted with Canadel single-piece wood inlays that are positioned precisely at a 55-degree angle to create a sense of movement in the car. Or you can have almost five thousand illuminated “stars” installed in them as part of the popular Bespoke individualization program, which can also appear on the dashboard or ceiling and thus complete the mystique of the night sky.
The electric motor alone should offer a power of 430 kW with acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds. According to the latest data, the Specter should travel up to 530 kilometers on a single charge. Deliveries of the first examples of the expected car to customers are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, but representatives of Rolls-Royce report that demand is high. “Unfortunately, I will have to disappoint some Czech clients, because the waiting period may stretch until 2025,” confirmed by Karel Kadlec.
The automaker has not yet officially revealed the price, but it should range between the price of the existing Cullinan and Phantom models. “In conversion, it starts at 11 million crowns including VAT, however, for Rolls-Royce models, the car never ends with the basic equipment, it is practically always modified according to the wishes of the customers.” stated to the upcoming prices of the first electric Rolls-Royce for Currently.cz sales manager of the Prague representative office of Jindřich Ježdík.
