ECDC estimates of the situation in the previous two weeks from 31 January to 13 February show that the cumulative incidence of Covid-19 per 100 000 population in Latvia was 6795.3.
Meanwhile, Lithuania has risen from 6th to 2nd place, with ECDC estimates that the incidence rate in Lithuania has reached 8,212.2 cases per 100,000 population in the previous two weeks.
Estonia has dropped from 3rd to 7th place with 6469.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. During this week, it can be seen that the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia continues to rise in 14 days, but in Estonia and Lithuania it is already declining.
The average incidence in the EU / EEA is 2962.3 cases.
The Netherlands ranks third among Lithuania and Latvia with more than 8,000 cases. In turn, the threshold of 6,000 cases is exceeded in Slovenia and Iceland without the Baltic States.
In Latvia, from 31 January to 13 February, the mortality rate with a diagnosis of Covid-19 has also increased. At the end of last week, it was 110.6 cases per million population and Latvia is in the 5th place among the 30 EU / EEA countries with the highest mortality.
The highest mortality rates are recorded in Bulgaria and Croatia, where the number of deaths in 14 days exceeds 170 per million inhabitants. Apart from Latvia, the threshold of 100 deaths per million inhabitants is also exceeded in Greece, Bulgaria and Slovenia.
The average mortality rate diagnosed with Covid-19 in the EU and EEA during this period was 54.7 cases per million population.
In Estonia, the mortality rate in the previous two weeks was 57.9 cases per million population, and Estonia ranks 13th among EU / EEA countries. Lithuania, on the other hand, has a death toll of 54 per million inhabitants and is currently ranked 16th among EU / EEA countries in terms of mortality from being diagnosed with Covid-19.
In the last two weeks in Latvia, the infection rate among the population aged 65 and over has also increased to 2130.2 cases per 100,000 population, and we are in the 5th place among the EU / EEA countries in this indicator. The EU / EEA average is 1168.9 cases per 100,000 population.
Latvia is currently above the EU / EEA average in terms of hospital occupancy. In the previous week in the EU / EEA, the proportion of patients infected with Covid-19 in hospitals was 36.8 cases per 100,000 population. In Latvia, this indicator was 53.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the previous week.
