The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe was three times the price of the Ferrari 250 GTO, which sold for $48 million in 2018.
The most expensive and beautiful in the world, according to experts, the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe went under the hammer for a record $143 million. It was sold at a closed Sotheby’s auction, which took place at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, writes Тorque News.
The car is named after the creator – designer, head of testing and racing Mercedes Rudolf Uhlenhot. He was behind the dominant W196R Formula One car and the iconic 300SLR sports car.
The uniqueness of the car is that only two of its copies were produced – the 300SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe and Mercedes.
The name of the lucky man has remained anonymous, but rumor has it that he is a well-known figure in the British automotive industry.
It is known that the terms of the purchase were not easy. The company required collectors to meet a set of strict criteria. In particular, about ten bidders “fought” for the car on the condition that they take care of it to the same standards as Mercedes, and also continue to share it with the public at events and not resell to third parties.
