Zombieland 2: Two is Better Than Better Than Two was better whipped into cinemas by fans for years after the horror surprise hit Zombieland. In autumn 2019, Double Tap actually started on the 10th anniversary of the first part. But did it really have to be? Did the world need this film?
Zombieland 2 disappears from Netflix on January 29th and on this occasion I look back on my biggest cinema disappointment of 2019.
Soon off Netflix: Zombieland 2 is one of the most disappointing sequels
I was one of those fans of the first film who couldn’t imagine anything better than going through the US post-apocalypse again with Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) and Wichita (Emma Stone). to travel. Part 1 was the perfect mix of road movie and zombie comedy. The film was bursting with ideas and told a warm-hearted story.

At the same time, there was a warning stab in the back of your mind that Zombieland might be a delicate plant that’s best not touched again. A stroke of luck, in which the individual components fell into their perfect place rather by accident. After all, the film was the product of an improvisation. Actually, a series should be produced, the film compressed the ideas into a tight ninety minutes. Can you successfully reproduce something like this?
What went wrong with horror sequel Zombieland 2
The sequel shows: Rather not. I know not all fans are that disappointed with the sequel. Moviepilot has a rating of 6.6. Double is better is not celebrated like part 1 (7.5), but it’s not a flop either. He played even more than his predecessor.
However, I found Returning bloodless and terribly redundant. The stars all returned, which is a feat in itself given the careers of Emma Stone and Jesse Eisenberg in particular. But the film doesn’t know what to do with its popular characters. He tells the same story again, only with more star appearances, such as Rosario Dawson. Because the Surprise performance by Bill Murray is one of the most magical and funniest moments of the first part.
Zombieland: Underrated Cult & Guide to The Walking Dead
Zombieland 2’s problem can be summed up simply: Watching lonely people form a surrogate family against odds in the midst of a zombie apocalypse is more exciting than watching the surrogate family merely exist in said apocalypse. The film forces the characters to make unnatural decisions in order to at least get them moving a bit.
So is Zombieland 2 only the skeleton version of the first part: a frustrating collage of loose gags and bizarre zombie moments. Just as entertaining, but without esprit and the courage to break out of your comfort zone. And therefore unfortunately unnecessary.
