Some survivors have not recovered from a series of symptoms even though they have been declared cured of infection COVID-19. Not only are COVID survivors with a history of comorbid diseases, this also seems to be the case with many young patients who have never had serious illnesses before.
Lung specialist doctor from the Friendship Hospital Dr. Diah Handayani, Sp.P (K) explained, how to detect and treat risks long COVID is by a thorough examination of the patient.
“(Examination) is thorough. What should be done? We can do blood tests, X-rays, check blood pressure, inflammation. It does not mean that all of them solve what is experienced,” he said in a webinar by the Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI). Saturday (3/4/2021).
Until now, there is no certainty about the symptoms that will arise from the physical condition of each patient. The reported symptoms are also increasingly diverse. Starting from respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, to unexpected symptoms such as hair loss.
“It’s not making it up, but this is a comprehensive syndrome. It could be not just one, but many,” he added.
So, what are the prolonged symptoms that the patient complains about long COVID? Here are some of them:
- Cardiovascular: Myocardiopathy, ventricular disorders, embolism
- Respiration (Lung): Decreased lung function, fibrosis
- Kidney: Acute kidney failure
- Dermatology: Reddish rash on skin, hair loss
- Neurology: Dysfunction of smell, taste, sleep disturbances, cognitive decline, memory impairment
- Psychic disorders: Depression, anxiety (anxiety disorders), mood disorders
