Two rare choral works at the Philharmonie de Paris, the moving Requiem by Fauré at the Seine Musicale and Jean-Claude Casadesus conducting the Orchester National de Lille: here is the selection Classic Radio concerts not to be missed this week.

The Choir and the Orchester de Paris at the Philharmonie on February 15

The Orchester de Paris and the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris demonstrate their originality with two rarely performed choral works: Nanie of Brahms and theHymn of the Cherubim by Tchaikovsky. The first is for mixed choir and orchestra, the second for choir the chapel. Also on the program is the virtuoso Violin Concerto°2 of Mendelssohn played by Ray Chen and the Symphony No. 4 by Tchaikovsky. The Orchester de Paris will be conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk.

The Requiem by Fauré at the Seine Musicale on February 15 and 16

It is one of the great sacred works of the repertoire: the Requiem by Faure. Created for the Madeleine church where Fauré was organist, it will be performed by the accentus choir and the Insula orchestra conducted by Laurence Equilbey. The execution of Requiem will be accompanied by the screening of a video by British director Mat Collishaw entitled Sky Burial, named after a Tibetan funeral rite. In the first part, another sacred work: the oratorio Saint Francis of Assisi by Gounod. It will be sung by tenor Amital Pati and baritone Samuel Hasselhorn. This concert will be broadcast on Classic Radio Saturday, March 25 at 9 p.m.

Jean-Claude Casadesus and the Pathetic from Tchaikovsky to Lille on February 16 and 17

Emotion in perspective! The time of two concerts Jean-Claude Casadesus finds the National Orchestra of Lille which he founded in 1976 and which he directed for 40 years. On display: Tchaikovsky’s last work, the Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique”, Overture to the opera The King of Ys of Lalo and the Fantasy-Concerto by Graciane Finzi played by German violist Nils Mönkemeyer. This concert will also be given on February 18 in Mouchin and on February 19 in Duisans, in accordance with the Orchestra’s policy of performing in the various communes of Hauts-de-France.
