Who made the nicest cars behind the iron curtain? Some time ago, we published an overview of socialist cars, which may not have been technically at the level of Western models, but at least caught up with them in terms of external appearance. Along with this went hand in hand an invitation to readers to share their opinion on which socialist cars they liked the most. And it eventually turned into personal memories.

Stationary named Škoda 110 R
Škoda 110 R, Škoda Rapid, Zetor Crystal, but also foreign cars such as Melkus RS 1000, Trabant P50 or FSO Polonez. When we selected the most beautiful cars from behind the Iron Curtain, the selection was quite wide, even though it only included a fraction of what car companies from Czechoslovakia, Romania, the Soviet Union or Poland actually produced. After all, you can remind yourself of the most beautiful cars by following this link.
However, our readers also sent us their opinions, and their selection is truly varied. Are you expecting a Škoda 110 R in particular? The coupe from Kvasin appears in the answers several times, some appreciated the sporty appearance and rich glazing, for others it was perhaps an unfulfilled dream, and that is why the car stuck in their memory. Not many were produced and a lot of them went to the Western European markets, from which they brought much needed currency into the economy. It was also a car unaffordable for a normal person. For example, in 1977, with an average salary of 2,462 crowns, it cost 66,800 crowns, which was almost double the price of a Trabant 601.
