The most beautiful adventure of autumn – VG
Per-Mathias Høgmo took Häcken to gold in the Swedish championship.

He did not become a prophet in his men’s national team. Thankfully, the resurrection of “Per Messias” is the story of one of the most beautiful things football has to offer.

There have been many opinions about the man who has now created a modern adventure in Häcken, where he has just been crowned champion of the series.

Adjectives have abounded on Per-Mathias Høgmo over the years, with varying values.

There aren’t really many people who have been both declared geniuses and ridiculed in the same way as him.

Now, fortunately, the words of praise dominate again. Høgmo took over an inferior team, created a winning car and did it in a way that exudes confidence and confidence in a project.

The contrast between how Høgmo is called in Sweden and what it was occasionally exposed to in this country couldn’t be greater.

There’s something nicer when a pro comes back and succeeds, not least if you’ve been through as bad as Høgmo’s.

In purely football terms, there has never been any doubt that one of Norway’s most educated coaches has more skills than the others.

But there are several circumstances surrounding his stint as manager of the Norwegian national team which have influenced his legacy, at least until now.

It was a difficult starting point to take Drillo’s place, and the decline became even greater when Høgmo chose a fluctuating and slightly pompous form of communication.

Failure in qualifying, coupled with some hard-to-understand provisions, was what it took for Høgmo to become a stump for many.

Then it was easy to forget the Olympic gold she won as the women’s national team manager, or the streak of great performances early in her career. If you missed the men’s national team, the stamp is firmly on your forehead.

Parts of the criticism of Høgmo were probably somewhat exaggerated, and it is part of the story that he was actually close to success with the national team. But in the end, the statistics – 18 losses in 35 games – and a lost faith in the project became too difficult to manage.

Nor was his stint at Fredrikstad the restoration of him that the football mad city had hoped for.

The hopes may not have been so great when he was brought into the club which last year was Allsvenskan number 12, but talk about making fun of the critics!

In Häcken, Høgmo was able to shape and mold the team in his spirit. He did it with a confidence that prompted club sporting director Martin Ericsson to say he could dominate Real Madrid. Eventually, he was able to reach gold.

Now speculations have also begun on the way forward for the veteran.

Not so long ago many considered it canceled. Now “For Messias” has the status of savior again.

Change is pleasant: The transformation is exceptionally well deserved.
