So far it is not possible to hide that you are online in WhatsApp, there is no button in the application to help you do this despite the fact that users have been asking Meta for years. When you open WhatsApp, it appears that you are online.
If you close WhatsApp manually when you exit, then you will already appear disconnected to your contacts, and the same after a few minutes if you lock the mobile because you are no longer using the app.
Hide on WhatsApp that you are online
There can be different reasons why people want to use WhatsApp in stealth mode: for example, some users don’t want to be bothered by other people, or they feel harassed by someone. The last thing we have seen about this privacy section on WhatsApp is the being able to choose if you want everyone who has your WhatsApp -or a specific contact- to see or not what time you were online the last time.
But hiding that information does not prevent you from appearing online, which is one of the most demanded functions in terms of privacy options in the messaging app. Well said and done, it’s finally on its way. As revealed by WABetaInfo this past weekend, WhatsApp is finally developing a feature that allows users to choose who can see when they are online on WhatsApp and who cannot.
Stealth mode in WhatsApp
As you can see in this screenshot, it will be possible to configure who can see when we are online right within our last seen settings thanks to two new options: “Everybody” and “Same as last seen”. For example, if you choose “My contacts” for “Last seen” and “Same as last seen” for “online”, it means that non-contacts will not be able to see when you are online.
At the moment it is unknown when it will arrive, although the fact that it is already available on WhatsApp Beta suggests that it will be sooner rather than later.
