The most ambitious edition of The Ages of Man | Radio Castilla | Present

This Tuesday opens an edition atypical Y ambitious of The Ages of Man. In this XXV edition, it has been decided to distribute the sample of sacred art in three locations: the Burgos cathedral, Carrión de los Condes and Sahagún; three milestones of the Camino de Santiago.

The king Felipe VI inaugurates this Tuesday this sample of religious art with a visit to the Cathedral of Burgos, focused on the cathedrals and focused, with its more than 120 pieces, to invite you to visit the other two, more focused on the image of the Virgin Mary. The general secretary of the Edades del Hombre Foundation, Gonzalo Giménez, explains that the exhibition in Burgos seo focuses on the cathedrals and its importance, for which it shows 120 pieces, starting with two replicas: that of the image of the stained glass window of the Cathedral of Salamanca which is the general image of this edition and that of the arch that led from the Archbishop’s Palace to the Cathedral, which was withdrawn in 1900 when the palace was demolished.

And the other key It is the closing of the Burgos exhibition, in the seventh chapter, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which closes with a 14th-century sculpture of the Virgin from the Cathedral of Ávila.

One of the two curators of the Burgos exhibition and diocesan delegate for Heritage, Juan Álvarez Quevedo, recalls that Burgos It has already hosted several previous editions of the Ages of Man, two of them in the Cathedral, which already hosted an exhibition focused on documents in the second edition of this cycle of exhibitions, in 1990.

In fact, in addition to the replica of a stained glass window by Arnao de Flandes, made in the 16th century for the Cathedral of Salamanca, the Burgos exhibition itself includes another window, in this case original, although restored, by the same author and one of the pieces on display from the Burgos Cathedral.

It also includes several especially relevant pieces from the Cathedral of Toledo, a wooden throne from the fourteenth century given by the Episcopal See of Gerona and several pieces from other cathedrals, including some from the Burgos Cathedral, such as the Guardian Angel of the City, disassembled for this sample, since it is usually found in the highest part of the altarpiece of the main altar of the temple, in the central nave.

Among all the pieces of sacred art with centuries of history, highlights a sculptural group entitled ‘twelve workers in search of a leader’, the only modern work, made by the Canarian sculptor Juan Bordes, died in 2020 a victim of the coronavirus.
