The Moravian-Silesian Region is preparing a tender for hydrogen buses, and has started consultations

The Moravian-Silesian Region promises less environmental impact from hydrogen and the emergence of a new industry

The Moravian-Silesian Region was the first in the country to start preparing a tender for the operation of hydrogen buses between Ostrava and Havířov and in the Havířov region. Hydrogen buses should start in 2023. The region has launched preliminary market consultations and invited carriers to participate.

“No one in the Czech Republic has announced a tender for the provision of public transport with hydrogen-powered vehicles. It is a new matter that no one in our country has experience with. That is why we have decided to hold a preliminary market consultation, “ said Deputy Governor for Transport Radek Podstawka. Carriers may express their interest in the consultation in writing by the end of March.

Since the development and introduction of hydrogen technologies, the Moravian-Silesian Region promises less burden on the environment and also the emergence of a new industry. He is thus preparing for the “carbonless time”.

“Hydrogen mobility is the future. Not only because the hydrogen drive is clean – only water drips from the exhaust, but the production of this fuel itself can be completely clean. At the same time, we will create a new, progressive and innovative industry, where a lot of people will find work and which will help the region to function without energy burning of coal in the future. We want not only buses but also trains to run on hydrogen in our region first. And, ideally, to be produced in Ostrava as well, “ added Jakub Unucka, First Deputy Governor for Industry, Energy and the Smart Region.

He has been talking about hydrogen (formerly from the position of Deputy Minister for Transport) for several years. According to some statement from 2018 a filling hydrogen station was to stand at the Hranečník terminal in the eastern part of Ostrava. The cost of its construction is estimated at 60 to 80 million crowns.
