Surprisingly, despite the health crisis that lasts and hardens, morale remains very good or rather good for three quarters of westerners surveyed for the latest barometer West France. Note, however, a clear difference between the departments. Morale Morbihannais is 12 points higher than that of the inhabitants of Loire Atlantique : 80% against 68%.
Are they confident about their future?
Moderately. Less than six in ten residents have confidence in the future. The oldest are more optimistic than the young, the men than the women, the Morbihannais than the Sarthois or the inhabitants of Loire-Atlantique (69% against 51% and 49%).
Are they optimistic about their territory?
It all depends on where you live. Globally, 64% of the inhabitants are serene. But they are more so in Ille-et-Vilaine and in Morbihan (72%) than inOrne (52%) and in Sarthe (47%).
What are their main concerns?
The inhabitants are especially worried – at 60% – about the lack of health professionals near their homes. Other concerns: the lack of local stores (50%), the professional integration of young people and employment in the territories (47%), safety (46%), environmental protection (45%), leisure and cultural offer (44%).
Do these concerns vary with age?
Necessarily. The youngest are more worried about their professional integration. What dominates especially among 25-34 year olds (young parents) is the fear of medical deserts, the lack of leisure and local shops. The 35-49 year-olds mainly focus on health, employment and the future of the commercial fabric. The lack of doctors, shops, the professional integration of their children and grandchildren and safety are of particular concern to those 50 and over.
What are the differences between the departments?
The lack of doctors is the first concern of the inhabitants of the West, especially in the Some and Orne (69%), Sarthe (68%), in Mayenne and in Vendee (66%). This fear is also shared elsewhere, but to a lesser extent. In Loire-Atlantique, it is above all safety that worries (61%).
Is regional identity strong in the West?
Yes. It is put forward by 84% of those questioned. This regional identity is popular in all departments, but especially in Côtes-d’Armor (93 %), Calvados and Morbihan (90%), Finistère and La Manche (89%). Much less in Loire-Atlantique (75%).
Ecology, a priority?
Obviously! For 86% of respondents and all age groups.
There are elections in June. Know or not?
Unless postponed, France will renew its departmental councils and regional June 13 and 20. Only 56% of those surveyed know this. The 18-24 year olds have completely missed out on information.
Is this electoral campaign arousing enthusiasm?
Not really ! 55% of the people questioned are not interested in it at the moment. And even 68% of 18-24 year olds. Interest is stronger among 50-64 year olds (56%) and among those 65 and over (54%).
Will they vote anyway?
Three months before these polls, civility wins in the West. 64% of the inhabitants questioned affirm that they will vote, certainly or probably. The prize goes to those aged 65 and over (74%), just ahead of those aged 50 to 64 (72%). At the back of the pack, 18-24 year olds (48%). Departmental and regional councils, for what?
The inhabitants of the West believe that these two assemblies must be able to act against the rise of extremism (54%). They also have an important role to play for the environment (51%) and to help people in difficulty (51%). But also for employment, training, security and maintenance of public services (50%).
