The rainy season – June to September – is approaching in the Far North of Cameroon, which enjoys a tropical climate. In order to maintain traffic on national road number 1, in particular on the Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri section, in poor condition, emergency works started on May 6, 2023. were prescribed by the Minister of Public Works, during his recent stay in the Far North region.

They therefore aim – as mentioned above – to keep traffic practicable on this axis and avoid potential disruptions due to rain. It is in this momentum that we learn, teams from the regional delegation of Public Works for the Far North and competent departmental delegations are mobilized on the site. It should be noted that there are even plans to rehabilitate this road, through the Improvement Project for Connectivity, Resilience and Inclusion (Pacri). Supposed to start from next June, the Pacri intends to completely rehabilitate the Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri corridor with a length of 205 kilometers, on the national number 1.
The project has three components. The first is designed to support ongoing efforts aimed at improving transport connectivity in the Lake Chad region and hence the Far North of Cameroon. The other two components focus on improving accessibility and community infrastructure in certain areas of the Far North, and building capacity in road safety and project management, respectively. Recall that it was in March 2022 that the Mintp launched a call for tenders for the recruitment of a company responsible for conducting the environmental and social impact study of Pacri.
