Some scientists are sure that the satellite of our planet could have formed from the substance formed after the collision of the Earth with an object the size of Mars. Now scientists have found new evidence for this idea.
Writes about it Science Alert.
Geophysicists from the University of Zurich have found new evidence that the Moon was once part of the Earth. It could have formed about 4.5 billion years ago in a crash on a cosmic scale.
To test this version, scientists used a mass spectrometer to study the chemical composition of six lunar meteorites extracted from the ice of Antarctica. These fragments hit the Earth as a result of the collision of the Moon with other space bodies. Direct study of the composition of the Moon is a complex matter. Mankind has not been there since 1972, and the collected samples are quite small.
As a result of the analysis, scientists found that the noble gas isotopes of helium and neon contained in lunar meteorites coincide with the isotopes found in the solar wind (a stream of ionized particles). According to scientists, lunar rocks have never been affected by it. This, together with the characteristic concentration of the argon isotope, supports the theory that these substances were inherited from the Earth.
The discovery could spur renewed interest in the study of noble gases in meteorites. Also, scientists can begin to study in more detail what else might be locked up in other lunar rocks that were previously undetectable but are now available.
Previously, the editors of our site reported that Astronomers have shown a detailed image of the space nebula Cat’s eye. Astronomers have released amazingly detailed images of the planetary Cat’s Eye Nebula. It was formed when a sun-like star ejected its outer layers of gas. The resulting object has a bizarre shape.
In addition, Cursor wrote that the American company showed a capsule for tourist flights into space.
