VIVA – Unfortunately luck Month owned by Earth, because it has become a ‘punching bag’ for the inner Solar System. New research suggests that the Moon may have been pounded while it was still a warm, soft little baby planetoid.
Without an atmosphere to protect it, the Moon would probably receive a lot of attacks from asteroid and other celestial bodies over thousands of years, as evidenced by the many craters on their surface.
A new study from Australia’s Curtin University suggests several primordial impacts, which may be responsible for shaping some of the moon’s larger features. CNET, Friday, September 17, 2021.
