The inhabitants of the village of François discovered this morning their war memorial vandalized. The plaques bearing the names of people from the town who fell in the war were smashed. Only bits and pieces of it remain on the asphalt.
It is with gravity that the mayor of François, Samuel Tavernier, noted the facts. An act that the city council strongly condemns:
This means that those who gave their lives for France died a second time. In my opinion, this is an unspeakable act. Either it’s a foolish act, or it’s a demand, we’ll find out later. War memorials or spaces dedicated to our collective memory are essential. They must enable the younger generations to understand our past in order to better understand the future.
The city intends to file a complaint so that an investigation is carried out and the perpetrators of this misdeed are prosecuted.
