The 37th edition of the Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse en Seine-Saint-Denis opened in Montreuil on Wednesday, December 1 and has already unveiled its winners.

The Salon of children’s book de Montreuil, organized for the first time in 1984, is the unmissable event for children’s literature. After a largely revised 2020 edition – and only online – the Show returns this year in an increased format for five days of festivities (from December 1 to 6, 2021). This year’s theme, “We! », Thus emphasizes the strength of the collective and the need to be together, while resonating as a questioning of identity and relationship to others. To mark the return of the Children’s Book Fair in due form, it was deployed throughout the territory: on December 1, the inauguration of the Fair was held simultaneously in Montreuil and in more than 90 bookstores everywhere. in France, welcoming around forty artists on the Salon program.
Until December 6, the Show will be deployed in 500 places of literary life (library, CDI, bookstores, etc.). The Salon also hosts the exhibition outside its walls. Our factory in US, deploying around sixty giant illustrations taken from eight recently published children’s albums. Nearly 400 exhibitors for no less than 180 authors, professional meetings, dedications, readings, conferences, workshops for children… The Children’s Book Fair is back in great shape.
The Gold Nugget awarded to Queen Kong by Hélène Vignal
The Golden Pépite for best children’s book was awarded by a jury of professionals to the novel Queen Kong (Thierry Magnier, 2021) by Hélène Vignal, published earlier this year. The jury underlined “ a clear, chiseled and contemporary writing for precious time, a delicate novel ”. In this unvarnished novel, Hélène Vignal examines the sexuality of a teenager and follows her in the discovery of her body, her desires, pleasure and her freedom despite the harassment she suffers on social networks. A sensitive book that openly confronts the question of emancipation, the look at the body of women and the injunctions that weigh on it. A title that openly echoes the King Kong Theory by Virginie Despentes, for a novel which, too, invites to the liberation of the word of – young – women.

Among the other prizes awarded, the Illustrated Book Nugget was presented to Spirit, are you there? (The Great People) by Dominique Ehrhard and Anne-Florence Lemasson; the Teen Fiction Nugget was awarded to Polly (The joy of reading) by Fabrice Melquiot and Isabelle Pralong; the Nugget for Best Comic Book went to Nowhere Girl (Dargaud) by Magali Le Huche; and finally the Junior Fiction Nugget was awarded to Girls usually don’t go so high (Gallimard youth), Alice Butaud and François Ravard.
