The month of the “counteroffensive”: the main mistakes of the ASU are indicated – 2024-08-25 07:11:37

/ world today news/ “Bashed in blood, they make their way to some villages in front of the first line of Russian defense”

Exactly one month ago, on June 4, Ukraine began the big counter-offensive in the Melitopol and Yuzhno-Donetsk directions. A month of fighting did not bring much success to Kiev, but turned into huge losses of people and equipment, including NATO. Criticism of the armed forces of Ukraine is increasingly being heard in the West – the Ukrainian army is accused of laziness and too poor results.

The military expert, head of the Center for the Study of Military-Political Conflicts, Andrey Klintsevich, assessed the enemy’s advance and told the MK about its main mistakes.

Another round of criticism came the other day from Franz Becki, a columnist for the Berliner Zeitung. According to him, Kiev did not live up to the high hopes of the West, losing the sent armored equipment. As the observer writes, about a month after the start of the Ukrainian summer offensive, disappointment set in.

At the same time, Russian military experts note that for a whole month the enemy managed to occupy eight villages in front of the so-called “front line”, that is, it did not even reach the first defensive “Surovikin line”. At the same time, he fights for some villages, often unsuccessfully, washing himself in blood on the way to them.

The offensive in the Artemovsk region was relatively successful for the armed forces of Ukraine – there they practically reached Kleshcheevka and Berkhovka. However, as some channels write“the enemy cannot cut off our Zheleznyanskoe-Dubovo-Vasilevka ledge, nor can the enemy advance to Soledar from the north.”

The 92nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which participated in the battles from Svatovo to Artemovsk, found itself in an extremely distressed situation. They are said to have “rubbed” almost “to zero” and will be disbanded, experts say.

It is possible that the enemy will (and most likely will) still try to attack in July. For example, he will try to make a passage to the long-suffering Artemovsk or force the Dnieper. However, it is now clear that the Armed Forces of Ukraine failed in their basic strategy and failed to distribute our reserves along the contact line to create defensive vulnerabilities.

Some experts draw an analogy with the Battle of Kursk in 1943. Thus, military analyst Alexander Zimovsky believes that Ukraine did not even achieve tactical goals for a month. “And of course it didn’t solve any operational tasks,” he said.

During the failure of the Kursk offensive, the German command was thinking much faster… It took the Germans a week to hide the lantern of the offensive and begin to regroup, moving to a strategic defense of the entire Eastern Front.”

Military expert Andrey Klintsevich in a conversation with MK noted that it is “desirable but difficult’ to draw historical parallels, since what is happening now in the SVO area is different from all military conflicts.

However, we see that Ukraine was preparing for this counteroffensive, gathering forces, announcing it widely.” he says. – She practically conducted a psychological operation, the task of which was to intimidate the Russian troops. They weren’t even afraid to talk about it out loud. In addition, they attracted Hollywood, shot videos. This is somewhat reminiscent of the Battle of Kursk (August 23 will mark 80 years since the end of the battle. – “MK”), when the Germans were preparing to defeat the Soviet troops but failed.

So here too, Western politicians and military analysts were very confused, they did not take into account the readiness of our defense positions, the coherence of our actions, the stability of communications and defense. Therefore, they could not even reach our defense lines, remaining in their vestibule.

The military expert recalled the tactics that our military has used successfully.

Defense is like a layered pie,” says Klintsevich, “there is a ‘grey area’ where skirmishes take place, then the outposts of observation, and only then minefields and first line of defense. So the enemy did not even reach the first line of defense. They began to explode in large groups in our minefields.

In addition, they almost regularly fell into the so-called mine traps – they clear some area, then go there with a large group, and we, with the help of remote mining systems, for example, “Agriculture”, block their exit from there. They found themselves stranded, tossed here and there and exploded on the mines …

The military expert also noted that the enemy made a big mistake when it decided to replace military aircraft with advanced technologies such as drones. Recall that even at the beginning of WWII they practically did not talk about drones, but the enemy succeeded significantly by focusing on them in battles. At the same time, the complete replacement of aviation with drones, according to Klintsevich, is “a suicidal, dysfunctional principle.”

– A parallel can be drawn here with the triangle of fire – three main elements ensure combustion, but if one of them is removed, then combustion stops. And here it is – they removed aviation, air defense, which were the cornerstone – and the structure collapsed. They tried to compensate for them with something else – the presence of attack drones, for example. Of course, they thought it was a brilliant plan and that they would be able to break through our defenses, but nothing happened.

The military expert does not rule out that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are now rebuilding and trying to test new tactical methods, possibly through provocation.

– The situation related to the artificial shallow water of the Kakhov Reservoir and the Dnieper suggests that they are preparing a land bridgehead for an offensive, since the rivers are fortresses and it is very easy to defend positions running along them. Therefore, we will expect activation in the near future, especially since we are almost a week away from the NATO summit in the Baltics, which is crucial for Ukraine. And there the Ukrainians will have to show results.

INTERIM: As Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Monday, the army continues to inflict effective fire damage on the enemy, significantly reducing its offensive potential. According to him, in a month the Russian army destroyed 15 planes, three helicopters, 920 armored vehicles, including 16 Leopard tanks in the southern Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Donetsk directions.

This is almost 100% of the tanks of this type supplied by Poland and Portugal.

In total, since June 4, Ukrainian troops have lost about 2.5 thousand units of various weapons in all directions.

In addition, over the past month, Russian air defense units have intercepted 158 HIMARS missiles, 25 Storm Shadow cruise missiles and 386 unmanned aerial vehicles.

Ignoring the significant losses, the Ukrainian leadership, at the insistence of Western curators, required the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to continue the offensive. At the same time, Kiev is trying to compensate for its inability to ensure success on the ground by terrorist shelling of civilian targets and thus achieve a propaganda effect,” – Defense Minister Shoigu said.
