The accused in the brutal murder of Stoimenka, who is 77 years old, – Michal Stankov, has asked at least three times in the last year and a half to be released from prison on parole. This is according to a reference by “Telegraph” from the Court of Sofia City.
After the murder of an elderly woman on October 27 and 28, Michal explained to investigators that he wanted to go back to prison. “I want to stay inside,” Tsenkov told the SGS on Thursday, when the magistrates ordered his arrest.
The last time Michal wanted to get out was in early February this year. However, the magistrates cut him off, because the evidence in the case showed that he had not reformed in the prison in Kremikovtsi. On the other hand – the risk of relapse was very high – up to 60 points, it is clear from the protocol of the court session. Tsenkov was sentenced to 19 years in prison. He was given 17 years for murder in the capital in February 2005, when Michal stabbed a man in the heart. His sentence was extended by another 2 years due to other crimes.
Both the prosecutor’s office and the prison administration believed that Tsenkov should not be released back into society. “The risk of rebirth is high, and the risk of harm to society is also high. The system of progressive punishment is not implemented, the same provides a sentence under general rule and the same is not changed to a lighter one. He is serving his sentence in a closed dormitory in the prison in Kremikovtsi and has not been reclassified to a lighter one,” the prosecutor’s office said.
“I realized the mistake I made. I did my punishment, I did more than was necessary both with work and without work. I don’t know how long I’ve been gone, maybe 9 months. I think for these 9 months whether they make a sentencing plan for me or not, they have not worked with me so far, so now they will work for the eight months that are left. No one has worked with me. In 2017, my sentencing plan was made,” Michal told the court just a few months before he took human life again.
The head of the prison in Sofia also believes that Tsenkov is dangerous and should not be released. From the references attached in the case, it is clear that he was released again from work, got involved in conflicts with other prisoners and asked for reports against the prison administration. Therefore, the court rejects all requests to get out of prison earlier.
In any case, 7 months later, the punishment imposed on the repeater will expire and he will be released. He settled in the capital – together with his sister. He started working as a general laborer in Gorubljane. The night before the attack, he drinks and takes drugs.
At night, he starts to go home, but he sees Stoimenka, who just got out of the car. She was in the Electoral Commission during the elections. She asked the driver to drop her off at a bus stop near her home.
She got off at the stop and went home. However, she never got there. Michal stood up to her, she jumped on top of her. Everything happened in seconds. With a few blows he broke her. The woman began to drown in her own blood.
She died quickly. According to the investigation, Tsenkov tore off her golden cross from her neck and statue. He also took her mobile phone. He scattered the other things in the surrounding area. In his explanations to the investigators, Michal said that he took the cross and the image because it was his faith. He said he intended to fornicate with the woman and rape her, but he saw that she had no pulse. Then he went home. The jewelry was found at his home.
