The Monkees guitarist Michael Nesmith (78) passed away | Stars

entertainment">“It is with infinite love that we must announce that Michael Nesmith passed away peacefully this morning at his home surrounded by family,” the musician and songwriter’s family said in a statement. “We ask you to respect our privacy and we thank you for all the love you have given him and us.”

entertainment">Nesmith – the son of Bettie Nesmith Graham, inventor of the tipp ex – was recognizable as a member of The Monkees by his woolen cap. He co-wrote songs like Circle Sky, The Girl I Knew Somewhere, Listen to the Band in Mary, Mary. The American pop band, the ‘American answer to The Beatles’, was formed in 1966 and also had its own television show. It was broadcast in the Netherlands in the mid-1960s on the AVRO.

entertainment">The Monkees broke up several times and got back together several times as well. They scored worldwide hits including Daydream Believer, Last Train to Clarksville in I’m a Believer. That last song, written by Neil Diamond, was covered for the movie in 2001 Shrek.

entertainment">With the death of Nesmith, drummer and singer Micky Dolenz (76) is the only living band member of The Monkees. Bassist Peter Tork passed away in 2019; singer Davy Jones, the only Briton in the troupe, died in 2012.
