As crown prince, Charles had very outspoken and personal opinions about, for example, the environment, climate, alternative medicines, modern architecture. “But as king, all that is left out, you cannot catch him making a mistake in that.” Charles also proves popular as king. “60 percent of British people think he is doing well, other individual members are also doing very well, especially William and Kate,” says Van Bekhoven.
What is striking: “The monarchy as an institution is increasingly seen as outdated, and not only by young people. People see that the diversity of society is not reflected within the institution. They wonder what the role of the monarchy is now. Nowhere does it appear that this is a subject that Charles is concerned with.”
