The moment to reap the fruits of effort

The Microsoft conference is surely the main course at E3 of this year. Those of Redmond have been acquiring numerous studios for several years and doing things very well on a general level, but that has not yet translated into a catalog of exclusive games that gives personality and packaging to their system. This E3 can be a before and after in this circumstance. It will be a long conference (approximately 90 minutes long), in addition to being the first E3 to which Bethesda becomes the property of the green giant. This scenario makes expectations and demands sky high, but we have to take into account the pandemic context in which we still find ourselves, and which has conditioned the development of video games during the last year and a half.

The flagship of the presentation will be Halo Infinite. Not only is it the most emblematic saga of Microsoft, but it was going to be the great banner of the launch of Xbox Series X / S. The criticism after its first gameplay made Microsoft make the difficult decision to delay the game for a year, and at this year’s conference we can see how the project has evolved. The premise offered by the game is very promising, as it will combine the exquisite and addictive gameplay of the classic Halo with open world elements. In addition, its multiplayer will be free to play. The only question that raises is whether the game will be able to exploit the technical virtues of Series X / S, since it also comes out in One.

From here, all we can do is speculate. The American company has a large number of titles announced to medium-long term, but it is difficult to know what projects we can see in greater depth at this E3. Titles like Everwild, Avowed or the new Perfect Dark seem to be going on for a long time, but maybe we can see a trailer for one of them. Hellblade 2 and Fable are two other games that were announced in their day with cinematic trailers, and are not expected to come out anytime soon. There are also Microsoft studios that have not yet presented any project, and that could offer the first brushstrokes during the conference.

What we could see is a new Forza Horizon. The new installment of Microsoft’s arcade driving saga is an open secret, and speculation has been going on for months about what the location could be this time around. Mexico has been gaining strength in recent weeks, but we will have to wait for official confirmation. Another game that we will see for sure is Psychonauts 2, whose launch is scheduled for this year. What has been seen so far looks phenomenal, and has the potential to become a great exponent of three-dimensional platforms.

From Bethesda, it seems that the game that will have the most importance will be Starfield. Its open world RPG approach in space is really promising, and rumors suggest that it is the most advanced development of Bethesda at the moment. Of course, we still do not know when it would be launched or in what systems. A new title in the Wolfestein saga would be a feasible bet. Among the games that seem most unlikely would be The Elders Scrolls VI (which is already announced) or a new installment of The Evil Within.

To this should be added the announcements made by third-party companies (which always have an important space in the Microsoft conference) and possible novelties in the form of games for the GamePass, which in recent months has experienced very significant growth. The sum of all that we have commented can result in a very complete conference, but we will have to see the time frame that we will have to wait to be able to play everything that Microsoft is preparing for us. The enormous economic effort that the company has made in recent times has to begin to bear fruit. It’s the moment.
