The MoMA in New York will reopen on August 27 – Culture

The Museum of Modern Art in New York announced that it will reopen its doors to the public on August 27, after more than five months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Two days later the Metropolitan Museum of New York will open, and on September 3 it will be the turn of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

For the first month, admission will be free, MoMA said.

To ensure social distancing, the MoMA will only allow access to 100 visitors per hour, with no time limit for the visit, which represents 25% or less of the maximum capacity of its building, as in the Met and the Whitney.

In all three museums, visitors must reserve tickets in advance.

With the pandemic under control for a few months in the city, New York authorities enabled the reopening of museums and other cultural institutions from August 24.

“We have been carefully preparing for the reopening of MoMA for months, to ensure the safe return of staff and visitors, and we are ready to welcome our newly expanded and reimagined museum,” said Glenn D. Lowry, director of the Museum.

Lowry said he hoped visitors would find “comfort and inspiration” at MoMA.

Broadway theaters and Carnegie Hall concert hall, meanwhile, will be closed until at least January. The New York Metropolitan Opera has plans to reopen on December 31.

The state of New York, which was the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States, has registered more than 32 thousand deaths from coronavirus.

But in recent months it has managed to control the epidemic, and only 0.71% of the nearly 57,000 tests performed on residents of the state on Sunday were positive, according to state figures.
