The MoH will prepare a plan for the recovery of the burned forests by the end of October – 2024-09-21 09:09:01

Wood for heating is up to 17% cheaper compared to last year, state enterprises reported

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food and State Forestry Enterprises will prepare Plan for recovery on the burned ones in 2024 forest areas until the end of October. This became clear during a meeting of Dr. Eng. Miroslav Marinov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food with the directors of the six state-owned enterprises and the Regional Directorates of Forestry in the country.

The directors of the enterprises informed that the survey of all 170 thousand decares of burned forest territories is currently ongoing, which will allow the preparation of an analysis of the affected areas and the taking of specific steps for their restoration. The territories will be constantly monitored by forestry experts, in order to prevent the development of insect pests and phytopathogens.

Deputy Minister Miroslav Marinov said that since the beginning of the year, more than 500 forest fires have occurred, and on 10% of the affected area, the tree vegetation was completely destroyed by peak fires, and the remaining nearly 90% were low-level fires.

In the recovery plan-program, all activities will be listed, such as the provision of appropriate soil preparation, the selection of tree species and the readiness of enterprises to provide the necessary planting material for afforestation – seeds and saplings, afforestation and cultivation schemes. The state-owned enterprises will prioritize the restoration of burnt areas near populated areas and eroded terrains.

During the meeting, the supply of firewood to the population before the start of the heating season was also discussed. The data of the state enterprises indicate that the sale prices of firewood are lower than last year – by up to 17 percent. “We are working to ensure the continuous supply of firewood for the local population. The necessary quantities of wood have been secured and at the moment the campaign to supply the population with firewood is proceeding normally,” Deputy Minister Marinov announced.

Within the framework of the meeting, it was decided that the Forestry Executive Agency, through its regional structures in the country, would carry out inspections of the permanent water courses passing through the forest territories for the presence of wood piles.
