The facelifted version of the Volkswagen Touareg is to be presented this May. The brand has already published photos of a camouflaged prototype and a fully exposed interior.
A few days ago, Volkswagen showed off a video that enticed us to the premiere of a new mysterious model. Speculations talked, for example, about the modernization of the Tiguan model or about a completely new electric car, whose arrival is expected under the designation ID.8. Now we know that another estimate was a hit – the modernized form of the Touareg model. The brand has now published a new video and a batch of photos showing the body of the novelty wrapped in camouflage.
The current third generation of the Touareg model was introduced at the beginning of 2018, so Volkswagen took quite a while to modernize it. The full unveiling of the facelifted SUV is scheduled for this May, but we can already start putting the first pieces of the puzzle together. The press release will reveal something, the veiled exterior will reveal something, and the interior images that the brand has released without camouflage will throw in other details.
The camouflaged Touareg is still undergoing driving tests, the final part of which took it to Sweden. At the front, Volkswagen promises redesigned IQ.Light HD Matrix headlights with 38,400 micro LEDs, which are connected by a light line, following the example of the brand’s other models. The biggest change on the stern could be the connection of the lamps with a dark belt, in which a light strip would be incorporated, similar to the bow.
What else Volkswagen points out about the design in the recent press release is the red illuminated logo on the rear. Since January of this year, the brand is said to have received permission to use it in Europe as well, while until now this detail could only be seen on cars of the brand intended for example for the American or Chinese market. We can probably also expect modified bumpers and wheel discs.
The facelifted Touareg will also offer a modified chassis, on which the settings of both the basic steel springs and the air suspension have been changed. The aim was to emphasize even more the difference between a comfortable driving profile and a more sporty one. Among other things, a roof load sensor has also been added, which communicates with the assistance and safety systems, so that, for example, the ESP can intervene a little differently depending on whether the car is loaded with a roof box or not.
The photos of the unmasked interior show an improved version of the infotainment system with a 15-inch touch screen. Volkswagen calls it the Innovision Cockpit, and it will now offer, for example, more sophisticated navigation, higher-resolution map data, wireless functionality of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or modernized voice control.
During the facelift of the Touareg, Volkswagen also paid attention to customer feedback and made the padding of the armrests and knee rests on the sides of the central tunnel softer. But we will have to wait for more detailed information. As we already mentioned, the full unveiling of the car is expected in May of this year.
