Volkswagen is using the Chicago Auto Show to introduce the updated model of the Atlas crossover.
Both the seven-seater Atlas and its five-seater Cross Coupe model have been modernized, so both have a new front design with a new radiator grill and headlights connected by a line of glowing diodes. At the back, the shape of the lights has changed, and now they are connected to a wide reflector, in which a horizontal line of diodes is incorporated. The appearance of the tips of the exhaust system has also been changed, a larger roof spoiler has been installed.
The interior is made of leather, built-in 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro gauges, multimedia equipment with a 12.5-inch screen and voice control, 8 USB ports. Climate control, seat ventilation and steering wheel heating are now standard equipment. Adaptive cruise control and a projection display can be ordered for an additional fee.
The 3.6-liter six-cylinder unit (280 hp) has been removed from the engine range, so the only choice remains the four-cylinder turbo engine, which now develops 273 hp and 370 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the buyer can order the cheaper front-wheel drive version or the 4Motion variant with all-wheel drive.
The prices are not yet known, so we remind you that the seven-seater Atlas currently costs 36,445 dollars, and the sporty five-seater Cross Coupe – 35,755 dollars.
Sales of the modernized model on the US market will begin in the summer of 2023.
