Kyriakos Mitsotakis made general statements at today’s Ministerial Council, in terms of dealing with accuracy and the demands of farmers.
“Inflation is resisting”
In particular, the prime minister, beyond the formalities about “imported accuracy”, has not taken any direct steps to relieve the citizens.
As Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in his introduction “as you know, a sustained push to get even more affordable prices on the shelf has been going on for several months now, as inflation seems to be resisting, especially in some specific items. As you know, we have already put a cap on the companies’ profit on baby milk, where the increases have indeed been large and I would say often unjustified, and at the same time we are cutting suppliers’ supplies to supermarkets by 30% so that this difference can be moved and as a benefit to the consumer”.
At the same time, the prime minister expressed his desire that “the first messages are encouraging and we expect the initial prices on more than 1,500 products from the beginning of March to be reduced”.
Conflict with reality
When the opposition parties said there was gross profiteering in basic goods, the government spoke of “populists”. Now that accuracy has become a permanent condition, Maximus “realized” that society is “bleeding” from high prices. All this three months before the European elections, where the government is afraid of receiving great political damage. And accuracy in any poll is the most important issue for voter voting behavior.
Regarding the issue of agricultural demands, Mitsotakis did not bring anything new to the table. But he confirmed that “of course I have committed to be in Thessaly soon to meet especially the Thessalian producers. Let’s see what more and how quickly we can move on the issues of compensations and also of restorations after Daniel’s death”.
