Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati, said that one of the reasons for the increase in air ticket prices was the high global aviation fuel price.
The increase in global aviation fuel prices is admittedly quite burdensome for the airline.

This explanation from the Ministry of Transportation follows complaints from netizens regarding the price of plane tickets which are said to be getting expensive lately.

In fact, from observation Kompas.com, Saturday (4/6/2022), on one of the online ticket booking platforms, Jakarta-Singapore airline tickets have touched prices above IDR 2 to IDR 4 million.

The government sets the upper and lower limit rates
Adita explained that related to tariffs, the government only regulates the upper limit tariff (TBA) and lower limit tariff (TBB) for passengers traveling on domestic routes in economy class.
Meanwhile, business class for domestic travel or domestic routes, fares are not regulated in a regulation.
“So it is indeed released or released according to the market mechanism. Once again for the business class it is not regulated,” he continued.
The same is true for flights on international routes, which are also not regulated, or left to market mechanisms.
Thus, airlines can set international flight ticket prices according to the existing market situation or mechanism.

Fuel costs and operating costs
He continued, some time ago, the Minister of Transportation Decree (Kepmenhub) No. 68 of 2022 regarding the adjustment of additional fuel costs or fuel surcharge was issued.
This is to anticipate an increase in world avtur prices, which will have a significant impact on airline operating costs.
“It should be noted that the cost of fuel or aviation fuel reaches approximately 40-50 percent of the airline’s total operating costs, and this ultimately has an impact on the condition of the airline’s operational costs,” Adita explained.
In accordance with the stipulated provisions, if there is an effect of an increase in fuel prices that affects operational costs to an increase of more than 10 percent, the government can make additional cost adjustments to the TBA.
“So this additional cost, according to the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number 68 of 2022, reaches a maximum of 20 percent of the upper limit tariff for propeller aircraft, and 10 percent for large-bodied aircraft or jet aircraft,” he added.

Supervision
