The Ministry of Transportation opens its voice about the news of the airport closing Halim Perdanakusuma. According to the Director General of Civil Aviation, Novie Riyanto, the fate of the Halim airport being closed or not is still under discussion.

Even if the airport closes later, according to Novie, it will happen because of the revitalization Halim Perdanakusuma. It is estimated that the airport revitalization will take approximately a year.

Until now, the Ministry of Transportation is discussing various things that must be prepared regarding the impact of the revitalization process, including airport closures.

“The issue of closure is still being discussed,” said Novie to detikcom, Friday (11/5/2021).

What is clear, Novie said that the revitalization of the airport was carried out in order to increase the flight safety factor. Currently, his party is preparing the design of the flight readiness side, starting from the runway alias runway to the drainage problem.

“We are preparing the design of the air side, such as runway reconstruction and repair of the drainage system. We are discussing things with various parties,” said Novie.

Novie said the intensive discussion was carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, Indonesian Air Force, Ministry of Finance, Angkasa Pura II, and other relevant stakeholders.

Halim Perdanakusuma Airport is being widely reported to be closed. This is known in the minutes of the airport operational coordination meeting led by the Executive General Manager of Angkasa Pura II Marsma TNI Nandang Sukarna.

The meeting was held on Monday, November 1 yesterday. In that meeting, the runway alias runway was decided to be closed. There are two options, partially or completely closed.

In a copy of the minutes of the meeting that was circulated, it was also explained that the closure plan was because there would be repairs at the airport from this month to the next 9 months. The airport will be prepared for the worst possible impact of these improvements.

It was stated that it would be better if the decision to close the runaway was made partially. “Or even not completely closing it will be easier,” read the minutes of the meeting as seen by detikcom.
