• The exhibition, located on the sides of Paseo de la Reforma, will be available from August 22 to September 2, and is part of the actions agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding to promote the exchange of art and culture between Mexico City and Montreal, Canada.

The Mexico City Tourism Secretariat will open the photography exhibition “Montreal-CDMX, Culture and Similarities” on Thursday, August 22, which will be available until September 2, as a result of the agreement signed between the country’s capital and Montreal, Canada, to promote the exchange of art and culture from both cities.
One of the agreed points of the Memorandum, in addition to carrying out tourism promotion actions, is to facilitate participation in exhibitions, congresses, fairs, conferences, seminars and other activities with the aim of highlighting the architectural, historical and cultural qualities that characterize each city.
The photography exhibition “Montreal-CDMX Culture and Similarities” will be available in the Open Air Gallery located on the sides of Paseo de la Reforma on Avenida Juárez, free of charge, open to the general public.
The photographic exhibition is made up of more than 35 large-format images by the renowned Mexican photographer Arturo Díaz, who shows some of the most emblematic monumental buildings in each city and their similarities. For example, representing Mexico City are the Monument to the Revolution, the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Torre Latinoamericana; and representative buildings of the city of Montreal, such as the Chapelle Notre Dame de Lourdes, as well as the Observation Tower, the Grand Quai of the Port of Montreal, among others.
It is worth noting that Montreal has been named by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the capital of design and is among the best cities in Art Deco architecture, its architectural gems stimulate the imagination of enthusiastic contemporary artists who have created works such as the sculpture “The Eye” by David Altmejd, located at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, as well as the recent piece “The Ring” created by the artist Claude Cormier, located in Place Ville Marie.
The photographic exhibition reaches the public through the Open Galleries Program of the local Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the General Coordination of Advisors and International Affairs of the Government of Mexico City, to the Paseo de las Culturas Amigas, a gallery that seeks the reappropriation of public space and the democratization of access to artistic expressions outside of museum venues.
