Ahmed Kamal, the official spokesman and assistant to the minister, said that the strategic reserve of ration sugar is sufficient until April 2024, and that 65 thousand tons of sugar are pumped monthly on ration cards, and that the harvest of the cane crop will begin during next January and beets during February 2024, and that the quantities that It is imported to fill the gap between production and consumption, amounting to 450 thousand tons annually.
He pointed out that the refining plant of the Sugar and Integrated Industries Company in Hawamdiya received 150,000 tons of raw sugar for refining and meeting the needs of the local market, and the quantities that are produced of raw sugar are distributed to production companies and beet factories, in addition to the Egyptian and General Wholesale Trade Companies, in addition to To offer sugar on the Egyptian Commodity Exchange platform at a price of 24 thousand pounds per ton, so that they forget to offer it to consumers at a price of 27 pounds per kilo in showrooms, outlets and chains participating in the initiative to reduce commodity prices, and that the quantities of sugar that companies receive are subject to the supervision of the Supply Directorate in each governorate through a resident inspector. In each packing or distribution factory, this is to follow up on the quantities delivered and the packaging locations and ensure that they are offered at the 3,000 price reduction initiative outlets nationwide at a price of 27 pounds per kilo.
For his part, chemist Alaa Youssef, head of the refinery sectors, said:Sugar company Integrated Industries, one of the holding companies for food industries in the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, said that the total quantities of imported sugar contracted by the state during the fiscal year 2023/2024 amounted to 320 thousand tons out of the total quantities that will be imported during the year, which amounts to 450 thousand tons.
