Closing ranks for the future viability of Bavarian companies: Minister of Science Bernd Sibler has started “digital.ING” together with the Bavarian economy – the new funding program for academic training opportunities in IT and digitization. Universities from Coburg, Nuremberg and Rosenheim make the start.

“Engineers and technicians play a key role in shaping the digital transformation in their companies. This often goes hand in hand with very specific challenges. With the new advanced training offers, we want to give them access to the know-how of our universities so that they can support digitization processes in their companies even better, ”emphasized Science Minister Bernd Sibler in mid-March.
As part of the joint program of the Free State and the vbw – Vereinigung der Bayerischen Wirtschaft e. V., academic training opportunities for engineers and technicians are to be developed. The University of Applied Sciences (HAW) Coburg, the Technical University (TH) Nuremberg and the TH Rosenheim have successfully applied for participation in the first “digital.ING” funding period in 2021.

The Science Minister emphasized the value of the cooperation project for companies: “In view of our rapid technological progress, lifelong learning is becoming more and more important. Our universities are excellent partners for this: They stand for innovative research and excellent teaching, ”said Sibler.
Up to nine projects by Bavarian state universities to expand their range of university certificates in the technical and engineering field will be supported in a total of three funding rounds in the years 2021 to 2023. The Bavarian Ministry of Science and the vbw are providing a total of 900,000 euros for this purpose. The target group are engineers with academic and technicians with professional training.

Vbw Managing Director Bertram Brossardt very much welcomes the fact that, thanks to the cooperation with the Ministry of Science, tailor-made advanced training courses can be designed according to the latest scientific standards. “Bavarian companies still need well-trained employees at all qualification levels,” he said, referring to the increasing need for workers with strong IT and digital skills, which had also grown due to the corona pandemic. “We were therefore happy to launch the project together with the Ministry of Science.”
The projects of the first funding round 2021/2022 are:
HAW Coburg: “Development and practical tests of certificate offers to strengthen digital skills in the industrial value chain (digital future skills in industry)”
TH Rosenheim: “Chiemgau Digital Engineering Studies (CDES)”
TH Nürnberg: “Development of a further training certificate ‘Digital methods for planning, building and operating buildings’ – The digital twin as the basis for successful construction projects”
