The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Belarus has listed four periods that are not included in the insurance period when assigning old-age labor pension.
In the department to remindto assign an old-age occupational pension, you need an insurance period, which is determined by the number of months of payment of contributions to the Social Protection Fund (SPSF). In 2024, the insurance period 19 years 6 monthsin 2025 and beyond – 20 years.
As stated by the Ministry of Labour, the insurance period includes periods of work, entrepreneurial, creative and other activities when contributions were made to the Social Security Fund. Here are the things that are not included in the insurance period:
- period of military service (except compulsory military service after 1 January 2020),
- full-time study in an educational institution,
- care for children under the age of three, disabled children, disabled people of the first group and citizens who have reached the age of 80,
- also the length of time they received unemployment benefits.
At the same time, the Ministry of Labor continued, these periods are taken into account when determining the total length of service, which is used to determine the amount of the pension (as longer the total period of service, the higher the pension). In this case, up to 40 years for women and 45 years for men will be counted.
What Belarusians should know about pensions
Earlier, Telegraf.news reported that Belarusians may retire early. This benefit is given to representatives of some professional occupations, mothers of five or more children, and more.
Women weavers, agricultural workers, urban passenger transport drivers, geologists, aircraft workers, teachers, doctors, artists, athletes and others are entitled to early retirement, the Labor Ministry said.

In addition, we reported at the end of August that the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Ministry of Labor of Belarus changed the current guidelines on the procedure for paying pensions, benefits and other social payments. Now, in order to receive the payment that is required by law, some Belarusians have to take an additional certificate, and pensioners and other beneficiaries will be able to receive their payments before the schedule.
