Manama: Ministry of Interior has introduced e-passport in Bahrain. The electronic passport has been launched with state-of-the-art security arrangements and modern technological facilities. The e-passport was launched as per the digitalization plan devised by the King of Bahrain, Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. At the official inauguration of e-passport, the Minister of External Affairs Dr. Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Sayani, Minister of Finance Sheikh Salman Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Telecom and Transport Mohammad Bin Thamir Al Kaabi and Chief of Public Security Major General Tariq Bin Hassan Al Hassan were present.
Governors, Home Ministry Under Secretaries and senior officials were also present. It is estimated that with the implementation of e-passport from March 20, visa fees will be waived in various countries. A fee of 12 dinars will be charged for the electronic passport. There will be a fee of 50 dinars to issue a new one to replace the lost one.
Shaikh Hisham bin Abdurrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Nationality, Passport and Residents Affairs Authority Affairs, said that 15 dinars will be charged for replacing a damaged passport. Passports are granted for five years for those under 11 years of age and 10 years for those above 11 years of age. It is also possible to renew the passport six months before its expiry. Minister of Interior Colonel General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa stated that the digitization of the passport will help to increase Bahrain’s reputation at the international level.
