The Ministry of Health and Population also revealed that 8.5 million women have been examined within the initiative of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi for women’s health, which aims to early detection of breast tumors, chronic diseases and reproductive health, stressing that the initiative aims to detect 28 million women while providing free health care, surgical and therapeutic interventions for life, for life. Engineer Ayesem Salah, advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Information Technology Affairs, said in statements to Al-Youm Al-Sabea that 8.5 million women have been examined so far in the initiative, indicating that 575,000 cases have been transferred to advanced examination centers, and that more than 5 million and 170 thousand women have been applied. They have the conditions for the initiative as they progress to the examination, pointing out that the awareness of self-examination for the detection of breast tumors has been directed to more than 3 million and 300 thousand women.
The advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Information Technology Affairs added that more than 570,000 women with breast cancer have been suspected and referred for a comprehensive examination to confirm whether they are infected or not, and 1950 cases of breast cancer have been proven and referred to treatment centers, adding that the initiative provides all its services for free and provides life-long treatment. For chronic diseases and cancer until complete cure, according to the highest applicable treatment protocol from the Supreme Committee on Oncology.
He continued, that the initiative is sustainable and targets women nationwide, starting from the age of 18 years, and includes detection of non-communicable diseases (diabetes, blood pressure, weight and height measurement, determination of body mass index, level of obesity or overweight), and awareness of risk factors that cause non-diseases. This is in addition to awareness of reproductive health, family planning, healthy living, and awareness of the breast self-examination method.
