The Ministry of Health says 2,000 doses of the monkeypox vaccine will arrive by the end of the year

MerahPutih.comIndonesia is trying to reduce the impact of the spread of the monkeypox virus after it was detected in the country.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has set a target for the monkeypox vaccine to be given to high-risk populations to prevent transmission and severe symptoms in case of monkeypox infection.

“The target, according to epidemiologists, is people at high risk so they need to be vaccinated. So later we will look at the population that needs to be vaccinated,” said the general director of pharmacy and medical devices (Dirjen Farmalkes ) of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Andalusian Rizka, quoted by Antara, Thursday (15/9).

He said the Ministry of Health has entered into a contract to order 2,000 doses of the Monkeypox vaccine which is expected to arrive in Indonesia this year.

Rizka said the vaccination would be aimed at target communities that had never been infected with the Monkeypox virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared monkeypox a global health emergency.

WHO states that there are three groups of people who are most susceptible to contracting monkeypox, including people who live with or have a history of close contact (including sexual contact) with someone who has been infected with monkeypox. or who have regular contact with animals that may be infected.

Healthcare professionals also have risks for which the PPI (Infection Prevention and Control) procedure must always be applied.

Hence, infants, children, and people with compromised immune systems are at risk for more severe symptoms and death from monkeypox.

Regarding the provision of medicines for monkeypox patients, Rizka said Indonesia imported cidofovir for monkeypox from Singapore.

“As there are not many cases (in Indonesia), we are centralizing the storage of Cidofovir in the central pharmacy warehouse of the Ministry of Health,” he said.

In Indonesia, 42 cases are reported, presumably Monkeypox collected by the Ministry of Health until 30 August 2022, one of which has been confirmed as Monkeypox and has been declared cured, 38 have confirmed not Monkeypox and the other three are under investigation.
