At least 19,217 residents over the age of 70, doctors and residents and staff of long-term social care centers, including residents with severe medical indications, have been vaccinated this week from Monday to Saturday.
More than 13,261 seniors have been vaccinated this week by Saturday, but a total of 23,788 seniors have already received the first vaccine against Covid-19.
In addition, more than 5,736 clients of long-term social care centers and 2,518 employees have received vaccines. Vaccination of medical staff is also continuing.
The Ministry of Health invites every Latvian resident to apply for the Covid-19 vaccine by calling 8989, on the website manavakacina.lv or at their family doctor, because applying directly will allow them to plan vaccination work in April, when Latvia plans to receive a larger number of Covid-19 vaccines.
Vaccination creates immunity to Covid-19 disease and protects against the onset of severe disease. Experience in other countries where widespread public vaccination has already taken place shows that all vaccines currently registered in the European Union show equivalent effectiveness in preventing severe Covid-19 disease and hospitalization, the ministry said.
