The Ministry of Health and Population has revealed the issuing of a circular for all directorates of health affairs in the governorates, which includes specific definitions of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and prevention mechanisms among children, adults and health workers, in order to to limit its spread and avoid complications resulting from infection with it.
Respiratory syncytial virus is a mild cold-like illness.
– But it can cause serious complications in children like bronchitis and pneumonia
– One in 100 babies under 6 months of age may need to be hospitalized, as they need oxygen and lung fluids.
Symptoms are fever, runny nose, diarrhea, vomiting, and sore throat
– If you notice breathing difficulties or cyanosis in the children’s skin, you must go to the hospital immediately
In case of syncytial virus infection it is forbidden to mix with children in schools, kindergartens and at home to protect them from the spread of the infection
Follow preventive measures such as:
Wash your hands, clean surfaces, do not kiss children and ventilate the rooms well
