The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) said that Indonesia is currently in fifth place as the country with the highest number of diabetes. Currently, it is estimated that people with diabetes will reach 19.5 million people.
This was said by the Director of Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (P2PTM) at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi. This figure is expected to increase significantly to 28.6 million in 2045.
“But it has not been proven or if it has been proven it is not under good control. However, it turns out that it is estimated that there will be 28.6 million in 2045,” he said at a press conference, Tuesday (19/11). /2024), as mentioned by detikHealth.

Nadia said that if there were no serious measures, this could affect Indonesia’s desire to become a developed country.
The demographic bonus that is expected to be a driver of economic growth and social welfare will become a burden if health problems, including diabetes, are not addressed immediately.
“If we do not immediately handle the golden generation of human resources that we dream of in 2045, that Indonesia will become one of the developed countries, it will certainly be very difficult to achieve,” he said.
“So the demographic bonus that we hope will bring benefits to our entire society will be just a dream,” he continued.
Dr Nadia said non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, can occur due to a number of factors. One of them is bad habits, such as smoking, lack of physical activity, not eating enough fruit and vegetables, and eating too much sugar, salt and fat.
“Approximately 30 percent or one third of our population is at high risk because they exceed the recommended daily consumption limits for sugar, salt and fat,” he reiterated.
