Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) claiming mutation of the corona virus (Covid-19) AY.4.2 or the Delta Plus variant has not yet been identified in Indonesia. Examination of specimens using the Whole Genome Sequence (WGS) method has not shown distribution varian Delta Plus in the Homeland.
Variant AY.4.2 is a subvariance of the Delta variant strain which was first discovered in the UK. The variant is a descendant of the SARS-CoV-2 lineage which has recently increased in frequency in the UK.
“It has not been found in Indonesia, yes, through an examination on the WGS network,” said the Ministry of Health’s Director of Direct Infectious Disease Control (P2PML) Siti Nadia Tarmizi via text message to CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (22/10).
Nadia said the government continues to monitor air and sea entrances to minimize the spread of new variants. He said the government would also strengthen WGS inspection in identifying new variants.
This Covid-19 Vaccination Spokesperson also ensures that the government will continue to tighten quarantine supervision for both Indonesian citizens and foreigners, following the opening of flight access for tourists from 19 countries.
“If the opening of the entrance is with conditions before departure, yes, and also upon arrival it includes quarantine and PCR tests,” he said.
Russia reported a number of Covid-19 infections were from the AY.4.2 variant which is believed to be more contagious than the Delta variant. Some researchers even suspect that this AY.4.2 variant is one of the causes of Covid-19 infections that continue to increase and reach record highs in Russia in recent times.
Variant AY.4.2 is also reported to have spread in the UK and was detected in a number of states in the United States. The AY.4.2 variant is becoming the dominant Delta variant mutation in the UK, according to an Oct. 15 report from the UK Health Safety Board.
