The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced the 2023 grant project competition, in which less than 760,000 euros will be distributed to development cooperation projects.
As the LETA agency was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the main priority of the tender is support for Ukraine, taking into account Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its people. The EU’s Eastern Partnership countries, especially Georgia and Moldova, as well as support for the civil society of Belarus and the countries of the Central Asian region – Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan – still retain their priority in the competition. The African continent is also a priority.
In the competition, it will be possible to receive support for the development of public administration and strengthening of capacities, promotion of democratic participation, development of entrepreneurship, strengthening of the field of gender equality, mitigation of climate change, fight against misinformation and digitization.
It will be possible to implement the projects in 2023 and 2024. The total annual funding available for project implementation is 759,777 euros. The amount of one development cooperation grant project is from 20,000 to 60,000 euros per year. The allocation of funds must also be determined in the annual state budget.
State institutions, municipalities, associations, foundations, merchants, trade unions and other subjects can apply for the competition. The project applicant must have at least one cooperation partner in the potential recipient country. Applications must be submitted electronically by February 16.
The Ministry states that in the spring they plan to announce a tender for Latvia’s support for the reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure.
