“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut continue to closely monitor the security situation in Lebanon, including the possibility of an escalation of armed conflict,” said the Director of Defense of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Indonesian Citizens and BHI, Judha Nugraha, to journalists, Sunday (4/8/2024).

“In response to the latest developments, the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has renewed its appeal to Indonesian citizens in Lebanon. Indonesian citizens are asked to increase their attention,” he continued.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked Indonesian citizens in Lebanon to immediately leave the territory of Lebanon on commercial flights that are still operating. Indonesian citizens in southern Lebanon have been advised to take shelter in the safe house of the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut.

“Indonesian citizens in South Lebanon are advised to take temporary shelter in the Safe House of the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut. In an emergency situation, they should immediately contact the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut hotline (+961 7081 7310),” he said. .

Based on self-report data from the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, there are 203 Indonesian citizens living in Lebanon. There are also approximately 1,232 TNI personnel serving in UNIFIL.

As is known, Tehran (Iran) together with Hamas and Lebanon-based Hezbollah accused Israel of killing Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday. Haniyeh died a day after an attack that Israel said killed Hezbollah military commander Fouad Chokr near Beirut.

Hezbollah said it had launched dozens of Katyusha rockets at Israel, saying the attacks were in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country was at a ‘very high level of preparedness’ for any ‘defensive and offensive’ situation.
