“Today’s speech by the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia unfortunately once again openly questions the European perspective of his country”. This is stated in the position of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

Mitskoski with a decisive move for Bulgaria

Earlier today, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mitskoski requested a French proposal 2.0 and rejected the possibility of dialogue with the Bulgarian interim government, BGNES reported. Mickoski stated that Skopje will wait for the election of a regular cabinet in Bulgaria to start a dialogue with it.

“It should be clear to the rulers in Skopje that attempts to launch ideas for the renegotiation of already undertaken international commitments can only lead to further distancing from the start of EU membership negotiations. This position of ours will not change regardless of whether a caretaker or regular government runs. We remind you that as a result of unnecessary provocations and confrontation with neighboring countries, North Macedonia has already lost too much time in the process of opening accession negotiations”, reads the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The official government of the Republic of Bulgaria is a legitimate government that has all the prerogatives for the management of the country. It remains open to dialogue with North Macedonia, while at the same time emphasizing that, whether conducted with an interim or a regular Bulgarian government, the dialogue does not include a renegotiation of commitments already made by Skopje. We would like to remind again that the European consensus of the summer of 2022 between the 27 EU member states and North Macedonia fully outlines all the steps to achieve real progress in the latter’s European integration process”, continued the MFA.

“The Bulgarian position is clearly spelled out in the Decision of the National Assembly of June 24, 2022, supported by all political forces. It is an expression of the will of the Bulgarian citizens to support North Macedonia in the process of fulfilling the criteria for EU membership, provided that the neighboring country adheres to the highest standards in the field of human rights and fulfills the international commitments undertaken in good faith. This nationwide position will not be changed”, concluded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
