The Ministry of Education will train 56 lakh school teachers through NISHTHA this year

NISHTHA was launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy last year.

In a major decision, the Union Ministry of Education plans to train around 56 lakh of school teachers from across the country in the current year 2021-22. The decision of the Ministry of Education is in line with the announcement made by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her speech on the Union budget this year, where she mentioned that around 56 lakh of school teachers will be trained throughout the country. The budget announcement also mentioned that teacher training will be carried out through NISHTHA. According to the Indian Express report, the Ministry of Education digitally trained some 30 lakh of primary school teachers during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Ministry of Education in a statement was quoted as saying that the training of the school’s teachers will be more specialized and focused. Regarding the schedule for the start of training, the Ministry has said that the training of teachers who teach students in their foundational years will begin in August. On the other hand, in the month of July of this year, the secondary and high school teachers who teach the students of the upper classes up to year XII will begin.

NISHTHA, which expands to the National Initiative for the Comprehensive Advancement of Teachers and School Directors, is a teacher training initiative that aims to equip teachers to provide better learning outcomes. NISHTHA was launched by the Department of School Education and Literacy last year.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Education, a total of 18 NISHTHA modules were made available on online platforms and translated into the top 10 regional languages of the country. During the Coronavirus pandemic, the NISHTHA modules were used to train primary school teachers from different schools across the country, including autonomous schools directly under the Ministry of Education such as Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, among others.
