The Ministry of Ecology called the timing of the ban on plastic bags

Ukraine will ban plastic bags from 2022

After the introduction of the ban, people will not be fined for using plastic bags. The punishments will only affect business.

In Ukraine, the sale of plastic bags at all points of sale and service sector will be banned from 2022, said Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets on the air of the TV channel House Sunday 6 June.

The official said that from March next year, super-thin and thin bags will disappear from the stores. They will be allowed to be used only for packing fish, meat, bulk products, ice as an exception.

At the same time, dense packets, which can be used several times, do not fall under the ban.

Sagittarius cites statistics, according to which every Ukrainian uses 500 plastic bags annually, in most cases – once.

As an alternative, the deputy minister offers biodegradable bags, which are usually made from starches or cellulose.

“Today their price is higher than the classic package that we are used to using. <...> However, every day the cost of such biodegradable bags will decrease, because there will be a certain competition in the market, “Sagittarius is convinced.

He also stressed that after the introduction of the ban, people will not be fined for using plastic bags. The punishments will only affect business.

As a reminder, on June 1, the Verkhovna Rada approved a bill that banned the use of plastic bags… For the distribution of the latter, a fine from 1700 to 3400 hryvnia is provided.
